What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets LLMs talk to external tools and data sources. The Focal MCP server exposes your ChatGPT Ads, competitor library, and account connectors to any MCP-compatible client, including Claude Desktop and ChatGPT.
Which clients work with Focal MCP?
Claude Desktop, ChatGPT (Pro tier with MCP support), Cursor, and any client that implements the MCP spec. We test against Claude and ChatGPT every release.
Do I need a Focal account?
Yes. The MCP server uses your Focal credentials to access your ad accounts, creative library, and competitor data. Your assistant only sees what your account is allowed to see.
Can the LLM actually launch campaigns, or only read data?
Both, with explicit confirmation. By default the assistant can read freely and propose actions. Anything that would create or modify a campaign requires you to confirm before Focal executes it.
How is this different from the Chrome extension?
The Chrome extension lives in your browser and helps you build campaigns from competitor patterns and templates. The MCP server lives in your favourite chat client and lets you brief and launch through conversation. Most teams use both.
